When I was writing for New Riders, one of the books that they sent me as a sample was Pat’s book on Linux Networking.
I didn’t meet Pat until a few years later – but heck if I remember where we were.

The last time I saw Zak we were both running on fumes from too little sleep but still dragging our asses down to attend moose camp 06 nevertheless.
We talked about what we might do in our local region of Greater Vancouver to encourage more talented developers, especially with strengths in open source technologies.
Also, we worked on planning the OSCMS Summit, a chance to get a bunch of open source developers together who are looking at solving similar goals.
As per usual, we drank long tall glasses of German beer. Yeah, I think we’re both open sourcies.
Roland is the uncarved block. (Don’t let that carved-y looking bit on the front of his head fool you. ;)
We drank German beer at the Sutton and chatted about the Netherlands. Unfortunately, unlike Weston’s last visit with Roland, there was no pizza.
He’s a kind, gentle, knowledgeable member of the open source beer drinking cabal :-) !
